AECOM is the No. 2 consultant worldwide for tunnelling as reported by Tunnels and Tunnelling International (T&T) magazine.
Geographically, AECOM is listed No. 1 in Asia, No. 2 in North America, No. 4 in Australasia and No. 5 in the Middle East. T&T bases its annual listings on firms’ year-to-year tunneling revenue, measuring them by market, sector and region.
AECOM’s success in North America reflects the recent, strong performance of Americas’ Tunneling practice, which in less than five years has established AECOM as a leader by advancing our professional expertise and winning design work on some of the largest and most complicated tunnel projects in North America.
In New York City, AECOM is the leading the engineering and design effort for the Second Avenue Subway project—the first major expansion of the New York City Subway in more than 50 years. Approximately 14,000 lineal feet (4,267meters) of bedrock is currently being dug out to connect the new line with the existing network at the Lexington Avenue/63rd Street Station.
AECOM is delivering the tunneling design for the Regional Connector Transit Corridor Light Rail Transit project in downtown Los Angeles, California. The project consists of a 1.9-mile (3.1-kilometer) bored tunnel with three cut-and-cover stations, and is the first of several new projects planned for the Los Angeles area in the near future.
Supported by AECOM’s network of international tunneling resources and partnerships with several of North America’s leading academic research centers of excellence, our team has positioned itself to meet clients’ increasing need for their project partners to posses advanced technical qualifications.
AECOM recently beat out seven leading joint venture teams to win the design contract for the South Hartford Conveyance Tunnel, one of North America’s largest wastewater storage and conveyance projects, in Hartford, Connecticut.
Americas’ Tunneling practice is proud of the results in T&Ts 2012 rankings. The results are an important measure of the group’s recent success and continuing focus to become the No. 1 ranked firm in North America in the near future.
