AECOM’s Edward J. Schmeltz receives Lifetime Achievement Award from ASCE
AECOM announced today that Edward J. Schmeltz, senior vice president and director of maritime and special projects, received a Lifetime Achievement Award for design from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) as part of the society’s Outstanding Projects and Leaders (OPAL) program at an awards dinner in Arlington, Va.
The OPAL Lifetime Achievement Award program was established in 1999 to recognize and honor outstanding civil engineering leaders whose lifetime accomplishments have made significant differences in the world. It recognizes Schmeltz’s career achievements and more than 35 years of experience in strategic planning, marketing and business development as well as operations for planning, design and construction of civil and transportation projects.
Representative heavy civil engineering and marine projects performed by Schmeltz have included:
Hamad Port Project, Doha, Qatar
Whiskey Island West Flank Restoration in Louisiana.
Port of Los Angeles, Pier 400 Project, San Pedro, Calif.
Homeports for the battleships Missouri and Iowa in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and New York.
In addition, one of AECOM’s projects, the Halley VI Antarctic Research Station, won the ASCE’s Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement award.
