The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) awarded AECOM a contract to implement the Colombia Public Policy Program that is worth up to US$22.5 million.
The USAID program provides support to USAID and Colombia in the development of a wide variety of policy positions, in coordination with the Government of Colombia (GOC). Policy issues will include, but will not be limited to, land reform, access to financial services, labor and vulnerable populations. It will be a pillar of U.S. support of Colombia’s National Consolidation Plan to solidify security gains and eliminate illicit activities.
AECOM will assist USAID with the design and implementation of 109 pilot programs to build support for large-scale reform, expedite policy implementation and gather information on the policy-reform priorities of Colombia Strategic Development Initiative regions. AECOM will coordinate closely with the GOC and USAID to develop work plans and terms of reference, select technical experts, monitor results, and make adjustments to meet changing conditions.
Key to the AECOM approach is a strategy to assist the GOC in building support for reforms and strengthen the Colombian policy-making process in the long run. With the support of leading Colombian think tanks, universities, non-government organizations and media, AECOM will improve in-country awareness about the importance of the structural reforms required to address key policy constraints and to overcome vested interests that are detrimental to citizens’ quality of life.
