The Highways England Roads Investment Strategy 2 (RIS 2) sets a long-term strategic vision and key investment priorities for the Strategic Road Network (SRN) from 2020 to 2025. AECOM was part of a consortium including Arup, Systra and Amey, that worked on the initial business case for the Project Control Framework (PCF) Stage 0, in line with preliminary options identified by Highways England to address key improvement priorities across the network.
AECOM provided recommendations and delivered a suite of assessment reports for 17 schemes to be included in RIS 2. Key schemes included the Hollingworth to Tintwistle Bypass, part of the Trans-Pennine upgrade programme, to ease traffic congestion between Manchester and Sheffield and the M11 J8- J9 motorway widening to support future growth at Stansted Airport.
Working collaboratively, the multi-disciplinary team delivered key services including scheme appraisal and review, gap analysis, scheme option development, business case development and environmental assessments.
A large number of the schemes assessed have progressed to the next stage of development, including the A57 Hollingworth to Tintwistle Bypass as part of the Mottram Moor Link Road and the A57 Link Road.
The RIS 2 was published in March 2020.
