AECOM awarded key role in redevelopment of Whipps Cross Hospital

Redevelopment of north east London hospital to be project managed by AECOM

LONDON (Sept. 18, 2020) — AECOM, the world’s premier infrastructure consulting firm, today announced it has been awarded the contract to project manage the design of Whipps Cross Hospital in north east London. The role, for client Barts Health NHS Trust, involves supporting the development of the Outline Business Case for the scheme, with the potential to take the project to Full Business Case and through planning and construction to handover.

“This is a tremendously exciting opportunity to help bring to life the vision for a truly community-integrated hospital,” said Richard Mann, Healthcare and Science Sector Leader, UK & Ireland at AECOM. “Leading the team developing the design for the new Whipps Cross Hospital gives us the opportunity to lay the foundations for a robust and sustainable scheme, which will not only benefit people in terms of better healthcare facilities, but takes a holistic approach to delivering wider benefits to the community such as new housing and infrastructure.”
The vision for the redevelopment of Whipps Cross is for a state-of-the-art hospital, which will provide improved services which integrate health, social care and wellbeing, as well as the site providing much needed new homes, community facilities and infrastructure. Services currently provided by the hospital at the site such as A&E and maternity will continue.
The plans for the new hospital are being tested and refined after the Department of Health endorsed the Strategic Outline Business Case for redevelopment earlier this year. Submission of the Full Business Case is expected in 2022 with construction potentially starting later that year.
