AECOM lead designer for transformation of 41 Tower Hill, delivering state-of-the-art interiors to revamp 1990s landmark office building
LONDON (April. 06, 2022) — AECOM, the world’s trusted infrastructure consultancy firm, today announced it has been appointed by SRE London to lead the design of the redevelopment of 41 Tower Hill, a prime office development on the banks of the River Thames in London.
The project will reposition the former Societe Generale headquarters, keeping the existing building structure and adding a new rooftop level that will increase the overall available space by up to 200,000 square feet. Taking a redevelop over rebuild approach, the building’s structure will be retained and stripped back to its shell and core. The building will be cut and carved, both externally and internally, to create a more open, connected and permeable base-building fit for the needs of a future workplace. A focus on sustainability in design will be key to reaching the BREEAM Excellent benchmark set for the building.
Due for completion in 2023, the majority of the building will provide Grade A office accommodation with substantial communal provision, including a ground floor clubhouse, retail space, a fitness studio, restaurant and café outlets.
Simon Jackson, Director, Interior Design Practice Leader – Europe and India, AECOM, said: “Our design for the refurbishment of 41 Tower Hill will transform the existing building, providing state-of-the-art interiors that will breathe new life into this landmark office development, which enjoys unrivalled views of Tower Bridge, The Tower of London and the Thames. Retention of the existing structure aligns with AECOM’s own sustainability agenda and sustainable design and specification will be central to our work. Our team thrives on transforming unfit for purpose buildings into grade A spaces that create a transcendent experience for the people who work there. We look forward to delivering a fresh, new and exciting space that will occupy a truly unique position on the market.”
AECOM is lead designer for the scheme, delivering interior design, architecture, MEP engineering and landscape design. It’s fire engineers, acoustic consultants and CDM specialists will also support the project’s delivery. AECOM will work with Stace, the scheme’s Project Manager, Employer’s Agent and Cost Manager.
