AECOM’s city-led masterplanning business set to expand across UK and Europe
LONDON (Sept. 22, 2022) — AECOM, the world’s trusted infrastructure consulting firm, today announced it is to grow its city-led masterplanning business and has appointed Elad Eisenstein to the newly created role of Director of City Masterplanning & Urban Design. Elad will join the AECOM team which has worked on projects including masterplans for the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Old Oak Common, University of Greenwich and Belgrade Uptown, Serbia.
In the new role, Elad will develop AECOM’s business in city-led masterplanning and strategic intervention sectors. The appointment will align to AECOM’s five-year investment strategy to grow its urban masterplanning offering to complement the existing disciplines across AECOM’s urban development sector. Elad will connect with AECOM’s wider key markets to strengthen its holistic approach to city development and create a powerful offering across the firm’s integrated architecture and landscape architecture disciplines, as well as the wider complimentary consultancies such as cost management, project management, engineering, sustainability and climate resilience.
Elad is a recognised expert in urban design and masterplanning, with more than two decades of global experience. He specialises in leading, designing and delivering major regeneration and urban projects. Most recently, Elad was client design director for a major regeneration project in Stratford, London. Trained as an architect and urban designer, Elad held various directorial positions with global consultancies including Ramboll and Arup. He was also Programme Director for the Oxford Street District with Westminster City Council, helping support communities and businesses in post-Covid recovery and setting a framework for the future.
Elad’s integrated and strategic approach to city design helped shape many major projects across the globe including the International Quarter Stratford City and Tottenham Investment Framework in London, NOMA in Manchester, Central Renewal District and Circular Quay in Sydney, Zuidas in Amsterdam and the Singapore Sports Hub.
AECOM’s UK&I Urban Advisory Lead, Richard Green said: “As our urban landscapes evolve, there is an urgent need to adapt our cities for increased climate resilience and make them better places to live, work and get around. Truly sustainable urban development leaves a legacy for communities where they can thrive, live in well-designed spaces and homes, and where their built environment withstands increasing climatic challenges. To deliver this, we need to bring together global talent with the big-picture vision to help cities and regions adapt. Elad brings world-class skills and experience to the team and will help us deliver our vision where infrastructure creates opportunity for our cities and our clients.”
Elad Eisenstein said: “This is a critical time for our cities, where the shift towards sustainability and resilience of urban environments has never been more important. Enabling such transformation requires an integrated approach, one that can balance the most critical global challenges such as climate change, health and economic instability with local issues and the needs and aspirations of communities.
“AECOM has a remarkable breadth of global skills and experience and true commitment to making a better world. I am delighted to join such a talented team and work with clients and partners to shape better cities for generations to come.”
Elad has been a member of the first cohort of the Mayor of London’s Infrastructure Advisory Panel. He has taught in major universities including the Architectural Association School of Architecture and UCL. He has published widely and is invited as a keynote speaker in many international conferences.
