AECOM joins Greater Manchester delegation in Austin to strengthen ties between the two cities

AECOM hosts city and business leaders from Manchester and Austin for roundtable discussions to foster shared learnings and collaboration

AECOM, the trusted global infrastructure leader, joined Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham in Austin last week as part of a delegation of city and business leaders visiting the US to promote closer ties between the two cities. AECOM hosted roundtable discussions, allowing groups from both cities to exchange knowledge on topics including sustainable transport and urban development, energy and net zero strategies, and innovation, investment and Public-Private Partnerships.

On the same day, leaders from AECOM’s offices in Manchester and Austin joined City of Austin Mayor Kirk Watson and Mayor Andy Burnham for the signing of a new agreement between the two cities.

Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham said: “The MOU we have signed with Austin further strengthens ties between Greater Manchester and Texas, unlocking significant opportunities for both places. The visit helped us build on existing links across a range of sectors, and it was fantastic to have AECOM, which has an established presence in both locations, join our delegation. In the discussions we joined we heard a lot about ways of working, best practices and innovations that will benefit both sides. Continued business engagement will be vital to the future success of the partnership between Greater Manchester and Austin.”

“Bringing together our Manchester and Austin teams to support the growing partnership between these two cities is a great demonstration of our ‘One AECOM’ approach, leveraging our global expertise to deliver the best for our clients,” said Matthew Gerken, director of project, programme and cost management (PPC) in the North at AECOM. “Our teams facilitated valuable discussions and shared learnings on topics that are key to the continued growth of both cities, ranging from economic development programmes to multimodal infrastructure projects. We fully support the city-level MOU and the opportunities it brings to both cities.”

AECOM’s roundtable discussions highlighted the importance of Manchester-Austin collaboration in driving investment and regional growth, and the opportunities that shared learnings and cooperation can bring for cross-city partnerships. Mayor Burnham, Manchester City Council Leader Bev Craig and AECOM experts from both cities joined the discussion alongside representatives from Workforce Solutions Capital Area, Austin Transit Partnership, Civic Solutions Partnership, Austin Chamber of Commerce, and Austin FC.
