The Crescent Development

Located on Baku’s waterfront, the Crescent Development is a prestigious mixed-use complex in the heart of Azerbaijan’s capital city, comprising a residential tower, a commercial tower with retail facilities and a seven-star hotel located off-shore on a man-made island in the Caspian Sea. Scheduled for completion in
2017, AECOM is providing design, architectural, structural, and building engineering services through to project and construction management on both the on-shore and off-shore developments.
The arched hotel, designed to symbolise a crescent — one of Azerbaijan’s national symbols — together with the two skyscrapers, will become an architectural landmark in the region and support the country’s continued economic growth.

SOFAZ Headquarters

AECOM is carrying out project and cost management services on behalf of SOFAZ for the design and construction of their new headquarters.

The building is located in Baku, on Heydar Aliyev Avenue, four kilometers from the coast. During construction of the building, various factors were taken into consideration – marine environment, proximity of the highway (the need for sound insulation), strong winds and storms – which are typical for the climatic conditions of Baku.

Using the latest international standards for energy efficiency and smart technology, the building consists of 24 floors, comprising a library, museum, auditorium, canteen and 16 floors of office space, fitted out according to the client’s specific requirements. Various floors have been decorated with elements of traditional Azerbaijani carpet characters. At the entrance, visitors will find a 10-meter carpet hanging on the wall. The carpet, made as a mosaic, is a reproduction of the famous Ardabil Carpet exhibited at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

There will also be two levels of underground parking, with space for 155 cars. AECOM was involved in construction of the vault area. Once completed, the project will attain BREEAM accreditation and set a new benchmark for these standards within Azerbaijan.
