The $55.57 million St Vincent Hospital Melbourne’s newest addition, the Berengarra Aged Care facility has been designed to deliver best-practice care, and integrated health and wellbeing services in a home-like environment.

The new purpose built 90 bed stand-alone facility is situated within the St Vincent Hospital Aged Care Campus in Kew.  The facility is dementia friendly, appropriate to end of life palliative care, supportive of wellness, recovery and good mental health, respectful of resident rights to privacy and dignity, and designed to minimize risks to the health residents and staff. The facility also includes new external and undercover parking to accommodate over 200 cars which allows for future expanded car parking capacity.

Services

AECOM worked collaboratively with Lyons and St Vincent’s Health to deliver a unique facility, tailored to provide ongoing value to the Department of Health and Human Services. The building design offers maximum flexibility in bed management and allows for the creation of separate zones to accommodate specific needs of different client cohorts.

The project provides effective pedestrian links for clients and families to other services and amenities on the St Vincent’s Aged Care campus as well as integrating both physically and operationally with existing assets and services.

The project was developed in phases. The structural engineering services included the full detailed design and documentation of all structural elements. The civil engineering works comprised of ground and pavement levels, pavement design, sub-surface drainage and in-ground stormwater from the base of the downpipes or external walls to the legal point of discharge.
