AECOM was retained to conduct due diligence investigation and to perform architectural/engineering service for a future airport.

As part of the development plan, the client wants to build a parking garage connecting to its building via a pedestrian bridge for their employees during their working shifts. The pedestrian planning team was engaged to conduct a micro simulation, including vehicle and pedestrian interaction, to assess the garage’s exiting capacity.

By working with the design team, garage geometry and other operation info were gathered, and demand profiles were projected for both vehicles and pedestrians. A model was developed using PTV VISSIM and its VisWalk add-on to model pedestrian and vehicle interactions. Customized scripts were also developed to further refine the parking simulation through COM interface within VISSIM. The total time to exit the garage was reported to inform the final decision making.
