For a major oil sands development project, AECOMĀ provided construction, module fabrication, construction and pre-commissioning services for steam assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) facilities, a thermal recovery process that allows development of deeper oil sands deposits while limiting surface land disturbance. We also have provided design and front-end constructability, construction and commissioning for a natural gas-fired cogeneration plant, which generates steam for the SAGD facilities.

Our work has included well pads and water treatment facilities, construction of the desulfurization unit and ongoing maintenance services. AECOMĀ has been involved on almost every major oil sands project that the client has built in the last decade.

The $3.6 billion project included pre-built infrastructure for future stages, with volumes ramping up over an estimated 18-month period.
