AECOM is the lead firm in York Consortium, a joint venture providing program management, planning and design-build services for a $1.8 billion bus rapid transit (BRT) system. As currently designed, the system will be convertible to a light rail system that can interface with Toronto’s subway system and other transit operating within the Greater Toronto Area.

As the private partner in Canada’s first public-private transit partnership, the AECOM-led York Consortium is tackling preliminary engineering and is also developing the environmental assessment process, network configuration master plan, and financing plan.

Preliminary engineering is underway for phase two of the three phase plan that calls for implementing dedicated transit lanes to separate VIVA vehicles from mixed traffic. The project is slated for completion in 2016.
