On International Women in Engineering Day 2020, we salute AECOM’s women engineering professionals across Asia Pacific.  Their technical excellence and leadership provide an inspiring example to next generations, of the contribution that women in engineering make to #ShapeTheWorld.

Here is our Singapore Country Representative Jee Yi Yng’s take on INWED 2020:

“INWED 2020 is about removing the glass ceiling and barriers to progression for women in engineering. It is also about celebrating the achievements and successes of women engineers in helping the profession to shape the world.

The things that matter in our industry – client centricity, quality and design excellence are gender-neutral. I’m especially passionate about elevating those attributes in our project teams and celebrating the successes of all, regardless of gender.

It is important for women not to shy away from challenges or recognition. If someone sees the potential in you and wants to help develop you to take on more responsibilities, be willing to take on the new challenge and accept what comes with it with an open mind, grit and tenacity.

Technical skills are important and are the foundation of what we do as engineers. However, equally important and critical are soft skills like relationship building, marketing and business savviness, because these skillsets set you apart as a star player.”
