AECOM completed project and construction management services for Santa Clara Valley Medical Center’s Sobrato Pavilion

AECOM supported the delivery of critical healthcare facilities for the City of San Jose’s only top-level trauma center

LOS ANGELES (Jan. 3, 2018) — AECOM, a premier, fully integrated global infrastructure firm, announces the opening of the US$470 million Sobrato Pavilion building on the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center (SCVMC) campus in San Jose, California.

AECOM, as project and construction manager, provided schedule and cost management, quality assurance, project administration and contract management during the preconstruction and construction phases for the facility. AECOM also provided similar services for the medical center’s recently completed Receiving and Support Center (RSC).

“AECOM is proud to have partnered with Santa Clara County in the delivery of these critical facilities,” said AECOM Senior Program Manager David Wilson. “Both projects involved significant challenges that required the specialized knowledge of medical buildings and construction management expertise that the AECOM team brings. The successful delivery of this work validates our position as a national leader in managing construction projects that improve and enhance healthcare facilities in our communities.”

The six-story, 370,000-square-foot Sobrato Pavilion houses 168 private patient rooms that include intensive care, acute/transitional beds, and rehabilitation beds, as well as a state-of-the-art spinal cord and traumatic brain injury Rehabilitation Center. Designed to achieve LEED Gold certification, it will be the first public hospital in the country to meet this national standard.

Connected to the Sobrato Pavilion and other campus buildings by an underground access tunnel, the 145,000-square-foot RSC is the material receiving facility for the campus. The RSC also includes offices for the medical center’s Facilities Department. Both facilities are part of the 50-building Santa Clara Valley Medical Center campus, which is one of the county’s largest and busiest hospitals. SCVMC is the only public hospital in the community and has provided care to more than 25 percent of county residents.
