In 2005, the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) retained AECOM to conduct a comprehensive study of the Kipling Station on the Bloor-Danforth subway line in Toronto, Ontario. The initial feasibility study and conceptual design explored the extensive redevelopment of the station’s site whereby an outdated passenger pick up and drop off carousel and commuter parking was to be replaced by an expanded bus facility and improved pedestrian and commuter amenities.

Midway through the detailed design phase for the interregional terminal, GO became a division of Metrolinx. The project was designated by Metrolinx as the Kipling Mobility Hub and expanded the scope to make this project a component of the public transportation infrastructure for the entire region. Metrolinx undertook a visioning study and then asked AECOM to restart the design base on the new concept, and submit a 25 percent design for consideration. The redesign included several new features with the objective of achieving LEED Gold certification. Detailed design and construction for the revised scope is to be the subject of a future assignment.
