AECOM provided the Navajo Housing Authority with a cost-effective solution, incorporating innovative technologies that expedited the project and reduced costs

Applying innovative technologies, we conducted a flood study and provided alternatives for remediating flood hazards affecting an NHA subdivision in New Mexico. While meeting both a limited budget and aggressive 90-day project schedule, our team utilized modern drone data technology, and a complex 2-dimensional engineering model, to map the floodplain in unique project area topography. The team met constraining project conditions, while pioneering drone technology in this floodplain study application on the Navajo Nation.

Client Benefits:

  • AECOM’s innovative work on this project supports NHA’s role in protecting life and property and its vision of housing the Navajo Nation by growing sustainable communities.
  • This pioneering use of technology serves as a benchmark for a progressive enterprise in data collection and flood hazard mitigation to address unique needs on tribal lands and other flood-prone areas.

This project won an Environmental Business Journal award in 2017 for Technology Merit for Monitoring.
