The Pacifica Apartments complex is one of Auckland’s most high-profile building projects. Once complete, The Pacifica Tower – a 178m high, 56-level apartment and hotel and complex – will set a new quality standard in the Auckland apartment market. The tower will comprise 282 apartments, a 41-suite boutique hotel, a high-end retail offering and resident facilities including lounges, a lap pool, sauna, steam room, spa, gym, media room, library and barbecue terrace.
AECOM has been engaged by Hengyi to provide Project Management and Engineer to the Contractor services for the development.
The project faces many challenges ─ not only the central CBD location, but also a busy working environment with minimal space available for storage and loading. Despite these challenges, for the first time in New Zealand the contractor is using a full-perimeter jumpform, encompassing all vertical structural tower elements. The jumpform climbs using electric jacks, with a single floor “jump” taking one hour. The floors and post-tensioning works are constructed within the perimeter screens hung from the jumpform. The jumpform system offers higher levels of safety and productivity, along with material and cost efficiencies.
All 56 floors of the complex are post tensioned, with the first to seventh floors spanning 1,000m² each and the eighth to 56th floors each covering 600m².
