Rail lines expanding and updating in Canada
A VIA Rail train arrives at a new station to pick up more passengers in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. AECOM’s staff in the Toronto and Montreal offices worked together providing engineering, architectural, and construction services for the $ 7 million project.
The project, included the addition of one new main-line track and a second platform while reconfiguring the stations track. The design called for adding heated island platforms (to avoid ice accumulation in winter), new elevators and stairs, waiting areas, check-in counters, and an overhead footbridge for greater accessibility and safety getting to the trains.
