The PSI Masterplan Design Competition’s (MDC) goal was to identify a masterplan that will guide the development of three man-made islands under the Penang South Reclamation (PSR) project, creating approximately 4.6km of public beaches, 662 acres of parks and a 25km waterfront.
Created in collaboration with a team led by Danish architecture firm, Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), the winning submission – BiodiverCity – focused on livability, on stimulating a socially and economically inclusive development, and on environmental sustainability for future generations, in line with the Penang2030 vision. The PSI project is a key strategic initiative of the State Government of Penang to prepare the state for the digital economy and will become the platform for a new economic thrust that will focus on strategic accelerators, smart enterprises and technology industries.
KPK Quantity Surveyors’ role in the design was to prepare the construction cost estimates and cost plans as well as providing leadership on the financial viability of the master plan design and concept.
The winning group was selected out of five world-renowned teams and was announced by Chief Minister of Penang, Mr. Chow Kon Yeow at Hotel Equatorial Penang on 20 August 2020.
