AECOM has taken the lead in the urban future with the development of the conceptual master plan that promises to revolutionize the city.
The city of Barranquilla is located in the north of Colombia, in a privileged territory, which over time has undergone several changes. It is currently considered a cosmopolitan city that contributes greatly to the development of the country and is located in a geographically strategic point within the continent, bordering the Caribbean Sea.
What was AECOM’s role?
AECOM led the ambitious River City Master Plan, where current conditions were analyzed to develop a sustainable approach that encompasses new habitats, urban design, conceptualization and infrastructure elements through a comprehensive urban solution.
Barranquilla has the opportunity to revitalize areas that are currently uninhabited and in a state of degradation, with incompatible industrial uses and low densities. The objective of the master plan is to infuse vitality into the area, creating an exceptional space to live, work, enjoy, learn and play. It seeks to generate sustainable spaces that will improve the quality of life for the current and future population.
This transformation will attract significant investment in innovation and development projects, turning the community into a vibrant, safe, attractive and dynamic district. It will promote the retention and attraction of talent, boosting research and technological development, fostering education and creating sustainable and healthy environments. All this will contribute to increase real estate investment in Barranquilla and consolidate its position as a business and tourism reference at the regional and international level.
