AECOM Tishman served as CM for the multiphase historical renovation of the Park Avenue Armory, originally built in the 1860s by the Seventh Regiment of the National Guard.
Among the many components of this massive restoration, the 55,000 SF Wade Thompson Drill Hall – the armory’s showpiece – was transformed into a state-of-the-art performing arts venue, with its existing steel-truss system reinforced to accommodate modern theatrical lighting assemblies, catwalk and MEPs, and the millwork, sashes and glass of the hall’s 161 windows replaced. The building was brought up to fire, building and energy code; made handicapped accessible; had its heating, plumbing and electrical systems replaced; and saw the addition of a central HVAC system.
