Press Release

May 28, 2014

AECOM announced today that Jane C. Penny, P.E., executive vice president and general manager, government technical services, was elected president-elect of the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME).

News

Penny will become SAME’s first woman president in May 2015 when its new officers are inducted.  She has been a member of SAME since 1983, having previously served as treasurer of the Illini Post; secretary, vice president and president of the Atlanta Post; South Atlantic regional vice president; and within the last year, national vice president, a member of the Board of Directors and a member of the executive committee of the Board.  In addition, Penny received SAME’s Outstanding Young Engineer Award in 1994, the President’s Medal in 2008 and became a Fellow in 1998.

“I am honored to serve as president-elect for SAME, an organization that so closely aligns with AECOM’s beliefs, especially around the importance of integrity — which both organizations hold as a core value,” said Penny.  “I look forward to using my industry experience to continue SAME’s work in advancing the field of military engineering and helping secure our nation.”

At AECOM, Penny leads the company’s government technical services group, tasked with growing the federal professional and technical services business market sector for the firm, both within the U.S. and at international locations where AECOM serves U.S. federal government clients.  She has operational responsibility for the federal business development group, as well as functional responsibilities for federal contracts and procurement, government accounting and compliance, and federal marketing and communications.

Penny has more than 35 years of experience in planning, designing, managing and directing civil engineering, environmental and infrastructure projects, with a focus on U.S. federal military and civilian clients as well as their programs.  Between positions in the engineering consulting industry, she served for six years as a senior civilian environmental engineer for the U.S. Air Force, where she was responsible for regulatory compliance oversight for all Air Force installations in the southeastern U.S.  Penny has also been actively engaged in mentoring other female engineers and is passionately involved in finding jobs for wounded warriors and other veterans returning home from combat.
