AECOM Hunt, in a joint venture, provided construction management services for the San Antonio Military Medical Center. The project scope encompassed a 358,000 SF renovation of the existing Brooke Army Medical Center and a 783,000 SF, seven-story bed tower addition with a helipad, four-story ancillary care center and three-story clinic.
The renovation of the Brooke Army Medical Center included over 82 individual areas being renovated, ranging in size from 1,000 to 45,000 square feet. The renovations touched all departments including surgery, sterile processing, neurology, orthopedics, imaging, emergency services, cardiology, endocrinology, pathology and women’s services. An extensive community of temporary structures was established for clinic space to accelerate renovation.
The new consolidated tower on the east side of the facility houses administrative space, an outpatient pediatrics clinic, an expanded emergency and trauma department, SICU, CCU and psychiatric nursing units, as well as an expansion of the existing pathology lab. The facility serves as a world class health science center for inpatient and ambulatory care.
The project also included a 1,700,000-square-foot, 5,000-car parking garage and a 33,000-square-foot central plant. The San Antonio Military Medical Center was designed and constructed to LEED Silver Certification.
