AECOM served as project and construction managers for Santa Clara Valley Medical Center’s (SCVMC) new acute care hospital wing, the Sobrato Pavilion. Completed in 2017, the six-story, 370,000 square foot Sobrato Pavilion houses 168 private patient rooms that include intensive care, acute/transitional beds and rehabilitation beds, and a state-of-the-art spinal cord and traumatic brain injury rehabilitation center.
In our role, we provided time, cost, quality and contract management of the pre-construction and construction phases of the project, which was part of a multi-phase, multi-project program to upgrade SCVMC’s inpatient facilities to comply with State of California earthquake safety mandates without reducing the center’s bed capacity. AECOM also managed several other projects in the program, including a new receiving and support center and the north utility loop, which serves the campus steam, chilled water and power needs.
The Sobrato Pavilion is pursuing LEED-NC Gold certification, and, once achieved, will make SCVMC the first public hospital in the nation to obtain this standard. Among the facility’s sustainable features are a heat recovery system, three green roof areas, water efficient plumbing fixtures and low-VOC building materials.
