AECOM Hunt, in a joint venture, served as construction manager for the University of Louisville Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium Expansion project. This expansion project increased the seating capacity of the stadium from 42,000-seats to 55,000-seats, all of which are chair back seats with arm rests, the only on-campus stadium in the nation with all chair back seating. Additional elements of the expansion include a new upper deck seating bowl, sheltered loge seats, new suites and a new 24,600-square-foot south terrace area.
Key features of the expansion include the addition of 10,400-seats to a new upper deck level; 33 new luxury suites, each with 18 seats, increasing the total number of suites within the stadium to 63; 1,725 sheltered loge seats with access to the 20,000-square-foot PNC Club. This expansion boosts the stadium club seating to over 4,000-seats.
The expansion project also includes a new 60’ by 20’ LED video board on the south end of the stadium, matching in size the existing board at the north end; as well as two new 345’ by 3’ LED ribbon boards, located on the east and west sides of the stadium. In addition, an expansive upper concourse level and terrace level featuring concessions and restrooms; ticket office and retail store; six new elevators; and new and expanded hardscape and landscape were included in the expansion.
