Located in Beijing’s Olympic Park (Zone B), the China National Convention Center has a total gross floor area of 270,000 square meters, including 150,000 square meters above ground and 120,000 square meters below ground. The curved façade symbolizes a bridge connecting cultures and knowledge from around the world.
Originally designed to host fencing and pentathlon events, as well as serving as the international broadcast center and main press center during the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, the building was later renamed the China National Convention Center and adapted to host international conferences and exhibitions.
What makes the project remarkable is its integration of indoor stadiums, plant and machine rooms, and a broadcasting center within a single building, achieving an exceptionally high standard of noise and vibration control during the Games. At the time, this was unprecedented in Olympic history.
The project has received multiple honors, including the Outstanding Survey and Design Prize, the Construction Innovation Prize and the Scientific Innovation Prize for Olympic engineering projects. It also earned the Great Wall Cup Gold – Structure and Great Wall Cup Gold – Architectural awards, the highest accolades in engineering in China.
