RICHMOND (February 20, 2024) — AECOM, the world’s trusted infrastructure consulting firm, today announced it has been selected to provide program management services for the City of Richmond’s (the City) Capital Improvement Program (CIP). Serving as program manager, this will be AECOM’s third contract to provide program management services to help the City achieve its goals related to the CIP, which encompasses several initiatives intended to advance the vitality of Richmond.
“Our knowledge of Richmond and depth of experience in program management make us well-equipped to meet the complex technical, design and construction management challenges of this next phase of the program,” said Bane Gaiser, chief executive of AECOM’s U.S. East and Latin America region “We’re uniquely poised to efficiently deliver its transformative projects that provide social, economic and environmental value for its current and future residents.”
In its role, AECOM will continue to oversee a variety of new construction and renovation projects, primarily focusing on civic buildings, parks and riverfront features. AECOM will also be involved in non-capital improvement project support, including urban planning and economic and digital infrastructure. The firm will also support planning for future projects within the CIP. AECOM has been a committed partner to the City of Richmond since 2007, completing 20 major projects including the construction of eight schools, parks, municipal buildings, and the T. Tyler Potterfield Memorial Bridge.
“Incorporating successes and lessons learned from previous phases, our team will provide program management expertise in this next phase of the program to achieve consistent, predictable, and desired project outcomes,” said Suhas Mengale, senior vice president and Program and Project Management leader, U.S. East. “We look forward to strengthening our existing partnerships with firms from Richmond’s local minority business community to support the municipality with its long-term vision for a better Richmond.”
The AECOM team is co-located at the Richmond City Hall, allowing for close collaboration with the City’s capital planning staff and the Chief Administrative Officer’s office. The estimated year of completion for this program is currently 2029.
