AECOM unleashed a new era at the University of Houston’s Fertitta Center with innovative design and enhanced game day experiences.
The University of Houston Fertitta Center (formerly known as Hofheinz Pavilion) opened in 1969 as the home of Cougars athletics and other exhibit, ceremonial and entertainment events. Despite incremental improvements and maintenance since its opening, the Fertitta Center had fallen significantly behind industry trends and peer facilities as it relates to fan experience, competitive advantage and revenue generation. Addressing deficiencies in these three areas was the primary focus of the renovation project.
AECOM’s sports architecture, economics, MEP and cost consulting teams united with local architect PGAL to renovate the Fertitta Center. The project involved a complete interior and exterior transformation of the dated facility, and introduced premium amenities such as a courtside club, mezzanine club and diverse array of fully integrated premium seating options for the first time in the venue’s history.
A collaborative and integrated AECOM effort, our work completely reimagines the game-day experience for fans, student-athletes, coaches, staff and students with features, experiences and design solutions that are uniquely Houston.
