Equipped with a deep understanding of the unique needs of Clemson University, AECOM in partnership with LS3P delivered a new state-of-the-art tennis venue that elevates the Clemson Tigers tennis teams, delights fans with new outdoor competition courts and a 700-seat permanent stadium and enriches campus life with an innovative design and modern aesthetics.
The tennis facility provides a new six-court indoor tennis space designed to meet the rigorous training needs of the men’s and women’s varsity tennis teams; concessions and public restrooms; and a clubhouse with locker rooms, a training room, equipment rooms, player lounges and coach offices. Related site work created a new parking area and six new outdoor practice courts.
The primary design goals for the project included improving the student-athlete and fan experiences and creating a strong presence along the main vehicular thoroughfare into campus. The new building is oriented along an east-west axis, optimizing sun exposure while maintaining desired full sun on the outdoor varsity courts. The clubhouse wraps around the existing varsity courts, creating an intimate interaction between the student-athlete spaces and the site. The materials palette of masonry, metal panel and glass complements the campus built environment while creating a contemporary aesthetic.
