AECOM completed an exciting project to infill the north end zone of the University of Mississippi’s Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. Originally, the stadium was open at the north end, accommodating only temporary bleacher seats to meet capacity demands. The seating bowl is now contiguous with a new 46-row infill expansion of the north end zone, increasing capacity, circulation and amenities. For the campus, this project establishes a front door to the athletics neighborhood and punctuates the Rebel game day tradition of Walk of Champions. For the athletes, it enhances the home field advantage. For the fans, the expansion connects the concourse levels, provides much needed seating with better sight lines and modernizes concessions and toilets.
In the south end zone, the stadium was expanded, while diversifying its premium seat offerings with 30 additional suites and a new field-level club immediately off the south end zone. The club accommodates 700+ premium seats with direct access to a field-level club directly off the players’ tunnel. No other fans have access to cheer on the Rebels more directly than these fans. The club features specialty food, drinks, seating and of course plenty of TVs to watch the game. A large center access brings the turf of the field directly to the door of the club, evoking the sense that fans are right on the field. Suite amenities include full-size refrigerators, high-top lounge seating and covered outdoor suite chairs to watch the game.
In conjunction with the new arena also designed by AECOM, Ole Miss now has a vibrant new front door to their athletics neighborhood that boasts a plaza with clock tower and a walk of fame to the north of the stadium that ties into a plaza between the stadium and arena.
