Developed by Squadron Energy, the Uungula Wind Farm near Wellington, New South Wales, will be a significant renewable energy project in the state. The wind farm will generate enough electricity to power over 220,000 homes and is a key project for Squadron Energy, which aims to launch 14GW of green energy projects by 2030, powering the equivalent of around six million homes across Australia.
Squadron Energy has appointed AECOM as the Owners Engineer to support the project’s delivery. AECOM’s scope will include design reviews, equipment inspections, site inspections, construction monitoring, and handover assistance to support this project into operation in 2027.
Once fully operational, the wind farm will consist of 69 wind turbines. With a maximum height of 270 metres, these towering structures will harness the region’s abundant wind resources. As three of NSW’s coal power generators retire, the wind farm’s projected 1,500 megawatts will be pivotal in securing the state’s energy supply, preventing over 560,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually.
Uungala Wind Farm will also provide significant local benefits, creating more than 260 jobs for the regional community and injecting approximately $41 million into the economy. The project considers both power generation and community wellbeing, and the region will benefit from critical infrastructure improvements such as faster and more reliable internet coverage, road upgrades and a range of community benefits initiatives, including sponsorships and community grant opportunities.
