LIMA (August 19, 2024) — AECOM, the world’s trusted infrastructure consulting firm, today announced its UK Healthcare Alliance (UKHA) joint venture with Gleeds and Currie & Brown has been selected to provide program management services by the Peruvian Ministry of Health, for the construction of two regional hospitals in Piura and Trujillo in northern Peru. The projects will play a crucial part in the Programa Nacional de Inversiones en Salud (PRONIS) initiative which intends to reduce the gap in health infrastructure within the region.

“Our knowledge of Peru and depth of experience in program management makes us well-equipped to meet the challenges of this project,” said Bane Gaiser, chief executive of AECOM’s U.S. East and Latin America region. “Our joint venture is uniquely poised to deliver this transformative work that will provide social and economic value for the region’s current and future residents.”

AECOM will serve as the managing business party of UKHA, which will manage the full lifecycle of the implementation of the hospitals. This includes concept design development, management of the procurement process for the design-build and management of the design-build contracts. The joint venture will establish a project management office (PMO) in Lima that will serve as a hub for coordination of hospital activities.

“This significant investment will not only reduce the need for patients to travel outside the region for high-quality specialized care but provide better access to healthcare for over three million Peruvians,” said Joao Wrobel, Buildings + Places business line leader, Latin America. “These state-of-the-art hospitals will offer advanced diagnostic and treatment options, help boost local employment and seek to improve quality of life for surrounding communities.”

To increase efficiencies and support effective decision-making processes, UKHA will mandate the use of building information modeling (BIM) and other digital technologies to streamline and facilitate the construction, management and operation of the project. Digital project management tools for cost, schedule and risk management, reviewing designs, and stakeholder engagement will all be utilized to drive risk reduction, better consider the needs of the end user, and improve overall standards across public services and infrastructure.
