AECOM delivered a multi-discipline engineering package for the $460M Logan Hospital Expansion, adding four new floors to existing Building 3 and infilling under the building and refurbishing existing areas within Building 1. A key enabler of the expansion project was the delivery of a new Multi-Level Car Park.
Services provided under AECOM’s commission included all engineering: Civil, Structural, Façade, Traffic, Hydraulics, Mechanical, Medical Gases, Electrical, Fire Protection, Vertical Transportation, Acoustics, Dangerous Goods, ESD, Electronic Services (ICT, security and nurse call), Fire Engineering (sub) and Survey/Scanning (sub).
The $460 million expansion project at Logan Hospital has significantly increased healthcare capacity in one of Queensland’s fastest-growing regions. The project added 206 beds and treatment spaces, expanded Building 3 (emergency department and other services building) with four new floors and refurbished key clinical and support areas across the hospital. This major development allows the Logan community to access more healthcare services close to home, addressing the region’s rapid population growth.
The new and upgraded facilities provide a modern, comfortable environment for patients and visitors, featuring new inpatient wards consisting of both single and double rooms with ensuites. Recognised as one of the largest hospital expansions in Queensland, this project is part of a $1 billion-plus investment in Stage 1 and Stage 2 of the hospital development. Beyond the new construction, the project also involved a complete reconfiguration of the site electrical network and the installation of a site-wide fire water ring, ensuring the hospital infrastructure meets the demands of the expanded services.
Services
Our services package for this project included all engineering and associated specialist services, encompassing Civil, Traffic, Structural, Façade, Hydraulics, Mechanical, Medical Gases, Electrical, Fire Protection, Vertical Transportation, Acoustics, Dangerous Goods, Fire Engineering, ESD, and Electronic Services (ICT, security and nurse call). AECOM delivered the business cases for Building Queensland from 2017-2019 and were subsequently engaged in early 2020 Metro South Hospital and Health Service (MSHH) via competitive tender for the design and delivery phases of the project. AECOM’s contract was subsequently nominated to John Holland Queensland on their appointment as the Managing Contractor for the construction delivery of the project.
The AECOM engineering team were separately engaged by MSHH to deliver the early designs and design and construction tender documents for the Multi-Level Car Park (MLCP) project as a supporting development under the Logan Hospital Expansion Program. The team provided owner’s engineer services through detailed design and construction of the MLCP.
