As part of Governor-elect Mikie Sherrill’s policy action team, Sam will help shape innovative strategies that create lasting value for New Jersey’s communities.

Sam Donelson, Executive Vice President and U.S. East & Latin America Regional Chief Executive, was recently appointed by incoming New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill to serve on the Transportation and Infrastructure Innovation Policy Action Team. This team unites industry leaders and innovators tasked with advising her administration and state agencies on forward-looking solutions to improve mobility, resilience and infrastructure investment across New Jersey. Sam’s role includes translating ideas into actionable strategies that address New Jersey’s evolving infrastructure needs.
“It’s a true honor to serve the State of New Jersey on the Governor-elect Sherrill’s Policy Action Team,” Sam says. “I’d like to thank Governor-elect Sherrill for her strong leadership and commitment to revitalizing our state’s infrastructure. Having spent decades living in New Jersey and working across the state to deliver transportation and infrastructure improvements, I’ve seen firsthand the challenges and opportunities we face. I look forward to contributing that experience to help the team develop practical solutions that create meaningful benefits for all New Jerseyans.”
With more than 30 years in infrastructure and operations, including over a decade at AECOM, Sam is at the forefront of delivering impactful projects that drive sustainability and enhance communities. Before taking on the role of regional executive in early 2025, Sam served as our New York Metro Transportation business line leader, overseeing major initiatives spanning highways, transit, aviation and ports across New York and New Jersey.
Prior to joining AECOM, he spent 20 years with the South Jersey Transportation Authority, where he led regional mobility initiatives, capital programs and economic development projects that delivered meaningful, lasting improvements for New Jersey residents.
Sam’s commitment to advancing infrastructure extends to serving on numerous boards and committees, including the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce’s Transportation Committee — which he chairs — and the Regional Plan Association’s New Jersey Committee. His deep understanding of the state’s transportation needs and proven collaborative approach make Sam an invaluable asset to Governor Sherrill’s team.
