We earned six honors across multiple categories, including the prestigious Local Grand Prize, at the Construction Industry Council Construction Innovation Award 2025. These awards recognize how we leverage advanced technology, sustainable materials and digital delivery to help our clients deliver faster, smarter and better infrastructure for the community.
Local – Grand Prize
Application of Ultra-high Strength S960 Steel in Civil Infrastructure
We achieved a world first by applying S960 ultra-high strength steel to two pedestrian bridges in the Northern Metropolis. This approach reduced the number of piles and the amount of prestressed concrete required, lowering carbon emissions while improving construction efficiency and buildability.
Local Construction Sustainability – First Prize
Innovation in Precast Steel Fibre Reinforced Concrete (SFRC) Permanent Tunnel Segmental Lining
We are the first in Hong Kong to adopt precast SFRC as a permanent tunnel segment lining. Compared with traditional steel reinforcement, this technique allows for thinner segment linings, reducing carbon emissions and waste by around 70 percent while improving productivity and quality.
Local Construction Productivity – First Prize
Development of the Loop – Pioneering Bridge Construction with Innovative Full-span Deck and Special Lifting Frame Methods
At the Lok Ma Chau Loop’s slip road ST01 viaduct, we set a new benchmark by installing the bridge deck in just five hours using a 360-degree rotating gantry — with only one traffic lane closed. This innovation improved safety, reduced disruption and boosted productivity on site.
Construction Productivity – Merit Award
U-shaped Tunnel Boring Machine (UTBM)
Our UTBM, named “Bauhinia”, is the world’s first unilateral excavation TBM and the first of its kind in Hong Kong. By combining shield advancement and segment installation in a single machine, it streamlines underground construction, enhancing safety and efficiency.
Construction Sustainability – Merit Award
Tung Chung Eco-shoreline: Hong Kong’s Nature-based Solution for Coastal Resilience
At Tung Chung, we demonstrated how engineering and ecology can work together. Through our eco-shoreline project, we integrated green coastal protection with biodiversity enhancement, creating resilient shorelines that support both urban development and natural ecosystems.
Construction Safety – Merit Award
AI-enabled “Design for Safety 2.0” – Project-specific Agentic AI Safety System for the Loop
In collaboration with the Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology (SIAT), we developed an AI-driven safety system that combines sovereign AI architecture with construction-focused language models. It supports autonomous risk assessment and real-time hazard prevention, helping project teams manage safety more proactively across every stage of construction.
Our accomplishments reflect our collaborative approach — uniting our expertise in the industry with that of the academia and our contractor partners to apply digital tools, advanced engineering and sustainable design across real projects. By continuing to work together, we can drive construction innovation forward and create places where communities can truly thrive.
