Kshitij “Kay” Asthana, Technical Director at AECOM and Treasurer of the Singapore Young Water Professionals (SWA YWP), participated in the Borneo International Water & Wastewater Exhibition & Conference (BIWWEC) 2024 in Kuching, Malaysia. Representing both AECOM and SWA YWP, Kay served as a panelist in the Young Water Professionals: Leading the Charge for a Sustainable Future forum, where he shared insights on key industry trends, including climate-resilient infrastructure, artificial intelligence, and digital innovation in water management.
During the forum, Kay addressed the challenges facing young professionals in the water industry, emphasizing the value of mentorship programs like the SWA YWP mentor-mentee initiative, which has already benefitted over 100 participants. He also highlighted the need for sustainable practices and innovative solutions to tackle critical water management issues effectively.
At the event, Kay engaged with prominent industry leaders, including Dr. Mohmad Asari bin Daud of the Malaysian Water Association and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Norhayati Abdullah of UTM Kuala Lumpur. These discussions reinforced the importance of collaboration and shared expertise in advancing sustainable water management solutions.
BIWWEC, the largest water and wastewater event in Borneo, is organized biennially by the Malaysian Water Association (MWA) Sarawak Branch. Originally launched in 2010, the event has evolved into a major international platform, drawing participants from countries including Australia, the United Kingdom, Japan and Singapore. The 2024 conference, themed “Bridging Solutions for Water Sustainability” and tagged “Flowing Future,” emphasizes active solutions and innovative strategies, focusing on areas such as energy efficiency, non-revenue water reduction, and the adoption of advanced digital technologies.
