Decarbonising infrastructure – a collaborative approach
Decarbonising infrastructure organisations cannot be achieved in isolation – it needs collaboration across multiple organisations to allow successful approaches to be tested, established, and scaled up to provide greater impact across the sector.
With collaboration in mind, AECOM founded and chairs InDeFor, the Infrastructure Decarbonisation Forum, in 2020 as a space to share best practice and learning on the challenges and opportunities UK infrastructure organisations face as they decarbonise their operations and capital investments.
InDeFor members include, among others, the Energy Networks Association, High Speed 2, National Highways, National Grid, Network Rail and Transport for London.
Periodic workshops explore a range of topics on tackling the decarbonisation agenda, from electric vehicle and hydrogen implementation to land use optimisation, low carbon materials and environmental net gain.
Similarly, in recognising the key role infrastructure can play in driving forward circular economy approaches to construction, we also founded and chair the Forum for Circular Infrastructure. This allows operators to collaborate across the circular economy theme, with the aim to meet the challenge of delivering major infrastructure in a constrained economy.
