Graduate Sustainability Engineer, Canberra
The best thing about working for AECOM is being part of a team of engineers who are highly skilled, enthusiastic, supportive and focused on a common goal. I really enjoy working with the Buildings and Places team in Canberra, where my manager, senior people in our team and my fellow graduates have been invaluable to my progress.
AECOM is a great place to get a firm grounding of what it is like to be a professional consulting and design engineer. Professional development is high on my priority list and AECOM is really helping me achieve my goals. I‘ve been involved in a wide range of projects across a number of disciplines within Building Engineering, including a new hospital in Canberra. This was my first true exposure to energy modelling and a steep learning curve, but it gave me so much confidence. It was interesting to see the complexities of the mechanical services required to keep patients comfortable and produce an energy efficient outcome.
I have high hopes and ambitions for my career with AECOM. I would love to become a certified project manager, manage my own projects and lead a design team, potentially overseas on a big, exciting sustainability project. I’d also like to be recognised for technical leadership, and retain a link to research community by writing and presenting papers at industry events. I can’t wait!
