AECOM celebrates the opening of the Intuit Dome, new home of the LA Clippers

News

LOS ANGELES (September 5, 2024) — AECOM, the world’s trusted infrastructure consulting firm, celebrated the opening of Intuit Dome, the new home of the LA Clippers. AECOM served as lead designer of the iconic new arena in Inglewood, California, and a joint venture of AECOM Hunt and Turner Construction served as the facility’s construction manager. The world-class event venue reflects the ambitious vision of Clippers’ leadership, energy of the community, and intense passion of the team’s fans.

“We are thrilled to celebrate this momentous occasion together with the Clippers, Intuit Dome and all of our project and community partners,” said Matt Crane, chief executive of AECOM’s U.S. West region. “In addition to the fan and athlete experience being top of mind, the Intuit Dome importantly goes beyond the game to create a positive impact on the Inglewood community.”

From the diagrid steel frame on the exterior of the building to the myriad features inside, Intuit Dome will provide a unique, multidimensional guest experience that prioritizes fans and the community. A strong commitment to carbon neutrality and sustainability drives the venue’s design features and envisioned user experience. The facility takes advantage of the Southern California climate through an indoor-outdoor approach that allows for a naturally ventilated entrance and upper concourse. A solar-optimized building shell will balance natural light and solar heat gain. Beyond the court, it will feature a multipurpose plaza, complete with a concert stage, community basketball courts and public gathering spaces.

“AECOM Hunt has led the construction of more than 160 arenas, stadiums and sports projects, and Intuit Dome is one of the most sustainable sports venues ever built in the United States,” said Bob Hart, President, Construction Management at AECOM Hunt. “The mega project redefines how a modern sports arena looks, feels and operates, and we are honored to work with the Clippers organization to elevate the experience for its athletes, dedicated fans and the thriving community of Inglewood.”

“The Clippers organization is one of the most philanthropic sports organizations in the U.S. and is devoted to being a good neighbor both on and off the court — a passion that is ingrained in the team’s culture and championed by its leadership. The arena will contribute to the renaissance that is unfolding in the city of Inglewood,” said Bill Hanway, Executive Vice President, Global Sports & Social Infrastructure Leader at AECOM. “I’m looking forward to seeing the positive outcomes that unfold as a result of Intuit Dome.”

In addition to AECOM, the core design team includes Anderson Barker Architects, Hood Design Studio, City Design Studio, Walter P. Moore, Henderson Engineering, and Labib Funk & Associates, among many others. Intuit Dome is scheduled to open for the 2024-25 National Basketball Association season. It is located at West Century Boulevard and South Prairie Avenue in Inglewood, California, adjacent to SoFi Stadium, the Forum and Hollywood Park.
