AECOM receives a perfect score on HRC’s 2019 Corporate Equality Index for the second year in a row

LOS ANGELES (March 28, 2019) — AECOM, a premier, fully integrated global infrastructure firm, announced today that it has earned a perfect score of 100 on the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation’s 2019 Corporate Equality Index (CEI) and been designated a Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality in the United States. The Corporate Equality Index is the national benchmarking tool on corporate policies and practices pertinent to LGBTQ employees.

“We’re honored to be recognized by the HRC for our inclusive policy and benefits structure for our LGBTQ workforce and their families,” said Michael S. Burke, AECOM’s chairman and chief executive officer. “As a firm supporter of the Equality Act, we aim to affirm and empower all of our employees across the world, and believe a diverse workforce is paramount to working seamlessly with our clients and the communities that we serve.”

Employers earning top ratings took concrete steps to ensure greater equity for LGBTQ workers and their families in the form of comprehensive policies, benefits and practices. The CEI rating criteria have three key pillars:

  • Non-discrimination policies across business entities;
  • Equitable benefits for LGBTQ workers and their families;
  • Supporting an inclusive culture and corporate social responsibility.

AECOM is dedicated to fostering an environment free of discrimination, harassment and ensuring equal opportunities in all areas of employment, including recruitment, hiring, training and promotion. Inclusion and diversity is embedded in AECOM’s core values and is a key driver of our success. The perfect score puts AECOM among the top-ranked firms within the engineering and construction sector for a second year.

“At AECOM, we pride ourselves on maintaining a workplace atmosphere where our LGBTQ employees are not only fundamentally protected, but also able to thrive,” said Mary Finch, AECOM’s chief human resources officer. “We are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace in which each of our 87,000 employees feels esteemed and supported.”

The Human Rights Campaign and Foundation together serve as America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve LGBTQ equality. By inspiring and engaging individuals and communities, HRC strives to end discrimination against LGBTQ people and realize a world that achieves fundamental fairness and equality for all. The CEI criteria reflect leading policies, benefits and practices for the LGBTQ workforce and their families in the United States.
