AECOM to deliver upgrade to advance Albert Park’s future as iconic F1 track and multi-use community sports precinct

Projects

MELBOURNE (August 25, 2025) — AECOM, the trusted global infrastructure leader, today announced it has been awarded a contract for the redevelopment of the Albert Park Pit Building, along with partners Icon and Woods Bagot. The upgrade will help secure Albert Park’s status as an iconic F1 track, which this year drew close to half a million fans. The local sporting community will also benefit year-round from the upgrades.

AECOM is delivering all engineering discipline services for the upgrade, which includes 14 new garages, new race control and increased capacity for the world-renowned Paddock Club to accommodate 5,000 more motorsports fans. Upgrades will bring the race-day infrastructure in line with other host cities. The local sporting community will benefit from seven indoor sport courts, two more than are currently on site, and improved clubrooms for clubs using the outdoor fields.

“We bring our unparalleled expertise in creating world-class sporting destinations to every project we undertake. This investment into Albert Park for Formula 1 and community sports will help secure our city’s legacy for global fans and the local community alike. I am proud of the role our team will play in delivering an unforgettable experience for all,” said Mark McManamny, chief executive of AECOM’s Australia and New Zealand region.

The integrated AECOM engineering design team delivering the project will take a holistic approach and design for constructability to ensure the works are undertaken around the F1 calendar, minimising impacts on the event. Central to the redeveloped precinct will be the use of timber in the upgraded Paddock Club, minimising its carbon footprint. Albert Park amenity and accessibility will be improved, and the building will be able to be activated as a multi-functional event space for community uses throughout the year.

“This project builds on our proven track record of delivering high-performing and sustainable timber projects, including our recent work with Icon on the award-winning T3 Collingwood. Being involved in a project with such global recognition is a career highlight and brings out the best of AECOM’s integrated delivery capability,” said Jochen Ristig, Technical Director and Sector Lead for Sports, Arts and Culture, for AECOM’s Australia and New Zealand region.

The project is expected to be completed in time for the 2028 Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix and will secure Albert Park for the event until 2037.
