The City of Warman recently commissioned Sewage Pumping Station #8 (SPS#8), which will allow for the development of approximately 450 hectares at the north end of the City.

AECOM has a long-term relationship with the City of Warman and the local developers. AECOM started working with K & H Developments Ltd. in 2005 on Legends’ Subdivision, a residential development. At that time, the plans included the replacement of Sewage Pumping Station #3 (SPS#3) along with a new pumping station (SPS#8), which would be required when the subdivision was at 50 percent build-out. SPS#8 was planned to service an area of approximately 100 hectares.

As Warman continues to be the fastest growing community in Saskatchewan, AECOM recognized an opportunity and recommended the city to change the vision for this project in order to approach it on a greater scale. SPS#8 was increased in depth and capacity, along with a change to the location providing service to an area of approximately 450 hectares, with some minor upgrades planned in the future.

Adjustments to the existing system, which started in 2012, have allowed for the redirection of flows from the existing system into SPS#8 and eliminated the need to replace SPS#3.

SPS#8 is roughly 11-meters deep and includes three sanitary pumps along with a backup power source. This station is similar to existing pumping stations in Warman, but with improvements for staff efficiency and safety. Sewage will be pumped from the north end of Warman to the city’s lagoon via a new 450-milimeters diameter force main, which was completed in 2014.

AECOM was responsible for the design, construction administration and construction inspection of SPS#8 and its force main.

“We are grateful to the City of Warman for the support it provided us during this project,” said Chris Cunningham, AECOM’s project engineer in Saskatoon. “The new station is able to handle new neighborhoods in the area and take some of the load from older sewage stations in Warman, thus allowing for city’s projected growth in the near future.”
