AECOM was appointed by Eris Property Group to provide full quantity surveying and cost control management services for the landmark Cape Station project in Cape Town, South Africa. This development represents a significant addition to the city’s urban fabric, combining state-of-the-art student accommodation with a dynamic retail space.
Located at the forecourt of Cape Town’s main train station, the project comprises a 20-story high-rise building. The student residence includes 3,085 beds across 900 units. The units are 1, 3 or 4-bedroom apartments that come fully furnished with built-in cupboards, study desks, chairs and equipped kitchens. The ground floor retail component spans 6,800m² of rentable area, contributing to the overall 74,000m² construction footprint, bringing convenience and activity to the area.

A challenge
AECOM provided cost management services to address challenges such as budget constraints and a tight timeline. The team utilized BIM 3D models to prepare tender documentation and through careful planning and collaboration, they ensured the project remained on track and within budget.
