AECOM Tishman has been involved with three projects at this Center for Life Science, a collaborative urban campus for healthcare and life science companies located on 3.5 acres between 28th and 29th streets and First Avenue and FDR Drive.
The complex was created to attract the kind of small start-up companies that are routinely spun off from academic research projects at the city’s universities and hospitals, in addition to appealing to established biotech companies.
We initially served as Owner’s Representative for the first phase, the construction of a 310,000-square-foot, 15-floor LEED Gold facility, the East Tower, consisting of laboratory and office space.
AECOM Tishman then served as Construction Manager for the second phase of development, the West Tower, a LEED Gold, 410,000-square-foot, 16-story laboratory and office building. Green features include making use of recycled materials, low emissions materials, and creating 90% of spaces using natural light and green power design. Concurrent with the construction of the tower, we served as construction manager for multiple tenant fit-outs, including the four-story, 120,000-square-foot NYU Langone Research Complex, encompassing laboratory and vivarium space, and the approximately 50,000-square-foot Translational Clinical Research Center for global biotech and pharmaceutical company Roche.
We are currently serving as Construction Manager on the North Tower. Targeting LEED Gold, the highly sustainable, 20-story structure will be approximately 550,000 square feet, with a below-grade service level and a core infrastructure to support the “Lab of the Future” for tenants.
When completed, the campus will provide more than 1.1 million square feet of lab and office space.
