AECOM proudly served as the design consultant and construction supervisor for the Lusail Expressway in Qatar, a landmark infrastructure project enhancing connectivity between Doha and Lusail City.
Located in a vital area, Lusail Expressway connects Doha with Lusail City and many public destinations such as the Pearl in the north, Katara and the Diplomatic Area – in addition to many residential areas, hotels, malls and other facilities.
Infrastructure design and engineering
The project stretches over 5.5 km from Lusail City in the north to the West Bay area in the south and includes 3 multi-level interchanges in addition to two marine bridges near the Pearl and Lusail City. The main carriageway of Lusail Expressway consists of 4 lanes in each direction, in addition to many feeder service roads for smooth connectivity.
AECOM began design services for the project in 2009 and provided consultation during construction, which was carried out by Hyundai. Our scope included designing all infrastructure and traffic systems, including underpass and flyover structures, ensuring the project met the highest standards of efficiency and safety.
Recognition
The Lusail Expressway project was recognized for its innovative design and engineering excellence, winning the prestigious 2018 ENR Global Best Road Project award. This exemplifies Qatar’s commitment to developing world-class infrastructure to support its rapid growth and urban development.
