AECOM was appointed by the Ministry of Transport & Communications (MoTC) to provide study, design and construction supervision services for the Bus Infrastructure Program, a nationwide initiative aimed at increasing public bus transport usage and service quality. This program includes the development of bus stations, depots, park & ride facilities and water transport terminals. The initiative is designed to provide a modern, safe and environmentally friendly public transport system, creating a welcoming and accessible transit experience.
The MoTC Bus Infrastructure Program spans multiple sites throughout Qatar, enhancing urban mobility with modern, user-friendly facilities. From the design phase to construction supervision, AECOM ensures the highest standards of quality and efficiency.
Design features
The design of the bus stations and depots prioritizes sustainability and accessibility, incorporating environmentally friendly materials, efficient transport interchanges and clear branding to enhance Qatar’s public transport identity. The facilities are designed to be accessible, with features that enhance the user experience — such as comfortable waiting areas, clear signage and advanced ticketing systems.
AECOM offered sustainable design elements, assisting the Ministry and the State of Qatar in achieving its National Vision 2030 which entails the developing transportation infrastructure to provide an integrated, multimodal transportation system that offers safe, reliable and eco-friendly services. Qatar intends to be a leader in technology and environmental sustainability with its focus on the transition to Electric Vehicles (EVs).
Recognition
The program was recognized as the ‘Transport Project of the Year’ at the MEED Best Global Projects Awards 2022.
In addition, the program is designed to achieve a minimum 3-star rating under the Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS), reinforcing Qatar’s ambition to lead in sustainable public transportation.
