Improving outdoor spaces to better connect communities

Our work supports the public good

Since 1996, we have successfully provided citywide construction supervision services for hundreds of wide-ranging New York City Department of Parks and Recreation (NYCDPR) projects totaling over 450 million dollars. Whether the work involves multiple, complex site improvements in the city’s largest parks and recreational centers or smaller, single street tree locations, our teams consistently provide expert services in support of NYCDPR’s mission, while ensuring diverse stakeholders are heard and funding sources are maximized for the greatest public good.

Enhancing the city’s cherished connection points

Our oversight of hundreds of diverse projects has been instrumental in building better communities ― from waterfronts, buildings and facilities to trees and trails, and from ball fields and courts to parks and playgrounds ― our work enhances all five boroughs. Many of these projects are iconic, including Bushwick Inlet Park, Harlem River Park, the reconstruction of East River Park and Juniper Valley Park, the historic 59th Street Rec Center renovation and addition, and overseeing the PlaNYC 2030 Schoolyards to Playgrounds Initiative.

Our depth of resources allows multiple projects to occur simultaneously ― for example, through the Street Tree and Greenstreet contracts, we oversaw planting of 100,000 trees per year while working on up to 10,000 sites concurrently. We oversee work that integrates sustainability components such as green roofs, rainwater collection tanks and photovoltaic panels, which helps revitalize neighborhoods and secure LEED® designations, the global symbol of sustainability achievement.

Providing expert oversight of complex projects

Because of our expertise overseeing heavy-construction sites involving collaboration with city agencies, we reliably deliver complex NYCDPR projects, including those subject to Wick’s Law contracts that define when to use independent prime contractors.

Our work at East River Park — one of Manhattan’s largest parks — required extensive coordination across New York City departments, including transportation, police and fire, as well as the NYC Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), U. S. Army Corp of Engineers and Coast Guard and Con Edison. In addition to installing a large-spray pool area with custom bronze animal sculptures, multiple ball courts, a synthetic-turf ball field and open lawn areas, we managed all park utility upgrades, installed an extensive irrigation system and reconstructed waterside bulkheads and relieving platforms.

For construction oversight of Brooklyn’s award-winning Bushwick Inlet Park District Headquarters facilities, we navigated complex, multi-agency requirements to earn a NYC Department of Buildings Certificate of Occupancy. The project achieved LEED® Platinum Certification by including green features like a sloped green roof with a rainwater irrigation system and plazas, a playground and water feature, an efficient geothermal-well heating-cooling system, heat pumps and radiant floors, and a photovoltaic energy system. Remediation required on-site capping approved by NYC Office of Environmental Remediation and DEC-compliant waterfront restoration.

Supporting NYCDPR’s sustainability vision

Whether in the planning, implementation, or monitoring and maintenance stages, our expert managers bring a neighborhood-first approach to the work we do. This focus not only supports NYCDPR’s vision to create and sustain thriving parks and public spaces for all New Yorkers, but it also aligns with our mission of delivering a better world.
