AECOM Hunt served as construction manager for the University of California at Berkeley Law School Infill project, a three-story addition of approximately 53,000 SF within the courtyard adjacent to the existing law building.
The addition has two below grade stories and one smaller level above grade with a green roof and is joined to the existing building by three pedestrian bridges. This project also included renovations to approximately 10,000 SF within the Law Building. The project provides instructional space, compact library shelving, student study areas, interaction areas, and a cafe.
The Law school remained fully operational during the renovation and expansion. We coordinated the work around exams and visits by dignitaries. Bancroft way is a major thoroughfare for student pedestrian traffic and at heavy intervals, sidewalk and lane closures could not occur. We made sure to coordinate these heavy pedestrian traffic times with the university and outline these special circumstances in the subcontract agreements.
