A new 116,000 SF elementary school on a green field site. The elementary school will have the capacity for grades K through 5th.
Open spaces are created in corridors of each grade level as collaboration spaces. The building is on a geothermal system for heating and cooling and a solar array system will be installed as an alternate energy source. The solar array system will produce enough energy to offset a portion of the buildings electrical consumption.
The flexibility and visibility within each classroom are carefully balanced with safety needs by employing ‘safety nooks’ that are out of sight of the corridor and which utilize remotely-activated door locking hardware. Other support spaces near the Collaboration Commons include restrooms, teacher workrooms, and storage.
